It looks like amazon digital is setting up pricing to compete with the now popular Steam digital downloads service. Although Steam has been gaining ground lately, now it seems that more players in the downloadable content for video game are joining in to fight for your hard earned dollar.
Amazon has been lowering their prices on digital downloads to match (or go lower than) the Steam sales this week.
Some examples of this trend:
Dragon Age Origins was $7.99 the day after Steam had it for $14.99
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is $11.99, while it is $14.99 on Steam.
So there you go, other retailers besides Steam are now in the mix and based on the price some loyal Steam customers might start considering switching to other services. Steam, however, seem to have a loyal customer base and remains to be seen if price would become the main factor whenever customers choose the platform for digital downloads as far as video games is concerned.
Please let us know your thoughts about these new developments and also let us know if there are other methods of distribution that might compete with Steam.
